“And think not that you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.” -Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet.
Rohith and I were leading our routinelives just like the several young working professionals in contemporary India, most of whom are rushing to and from work and counting down days to each weekend (haha!), until one fine day…… fate decided to smile down upon us and change the course of our lives!!
The minute the green signal was given to our folks, the planning began in full swing almost as fast as a 100m running race! However, with me being a Chennai ponnu (Tamil for girl!) , Rohith being a true blue Mumbaikar and with our extended families settled both in Kerala and Bangalore, led to the biggest decision both families had to make- deciding onthe location of the wedding!
Upon reaching a consensus, we decided to have our engagement in Bangalore, Wedding in Chennai and Reception in Chennai and Mumbai (Phew!!) and there began the months of planning and coordination with various stakeholders, which all seemed to fly past all too soon and before we knew it….We were at the threshold ofour traditional Malayali wedding !
Wedding functions these days definitely require both our families and friends to get together and jive to some foot-tapping music as part of the pre wedding festivities that was conducted very well in Hotel Raj Palace Sundar, Adyar. The staff were very helpful and food was delicious. A beautifully crafted Wedding cake by Blondies (Ashwini Boopathy) was one of the highlights of the evening.
A Traditional Malayali wedding is said to be a no-hassle, “blink and miss” ceremony and we chose Mahalingapuram Guruvayurappan temple for this due to the auspicious and spiritual vibes that this beautiful temple resonates plus the traditional mouth watering ”Kerala sadhya” by the Namboodiris.
Our wedding reception was held at the evergreen “Green Park” Hotel and the staff were extremely supportive and the dinner was much appreciated by all the guests!
A second reception from the groom side was held at Hotel Yogi Midtown, Mumbai where the Paan ice cream was the talk of the town!
After some extensive research on Pinterest (Just like most other brides these days), I had an image of exactly what I was going to wear on my big day.
Kanakavalli Bridal collection Kanchivaram saris are fantastic and one can never cease to be amazed in the famous Nalli 100. Kalanikethan saris, T-Nagar also had a great service and unique colours as part of their bridal collection (and for their mothers too!!). Laxmi Sarees in Chickpet, Bangalore had fabulous color choice for identical bridesmaid sarees.
My wedding trousseau and blouses was tailored beautifully by Stitches and Knots, Adyar (Ms.Soumya), Jodha Couture, Adyar (Dr Amudha) and Beads ,Adyar! A Special mention to the intricate embroidery and blouse design done by Stitches and Knots that looked absolutely fantastic on my wedding day!
I chose to wear a trailing gown for our second reception at Mumbai that complemented my husband’s “ Band Gala” picked up from Central Plaza, Santa Cruz, Mumbai.
The traditional attire for the groom was from the famous “Kalyan Silks” and “Seematti” from Kerala that looked crisp and chic on our big day.
Gold jewellery (that is trademark of Malayali weddings!) was selected at GRT jewelry, Kalyan Jewelers, and Joy Alukkas. The designs and collection at these three stores are mind boggling for brides and caters to all sorts of customers, including picky ones such as myself!
Bridal Make up:
Belle makeover services (Janani Raghunathan), a dear friend from school days, did a fantastic job that makes the dream of every bride come true- to look beautiful on her wedding day! From the day I booked Janani I knew that my hair and make- up were in good hands and that gave me one less thing to worry about! Rest assured she worked her magic on both days and was punctual, dependable, insightful, cheerful, calm and extremely professional, keeping all Bridezzilla moments at bay! I would recommend all brides-to-be to book Janani immediately without thinking twice!
Bridal Mehendi was artistically executed by “Neela Mehendi”, Sowcarpet, Chennai.
Wedding Planners and Event Management:
Every bride dreams of her wedding to be perfect and mine was just as I imagined it; all thanks to the hard work and effort put in by our families (Mom and Dad require a special mention for putting up with all those whims their daughter had!) and made possible by Mangalyam Events (Mrs Rati Menon and Mrs Sudha). Mangalyam coordinated the entire wedding ceremony and the wedding reception so wonderfully that I would recommend them hands down for their professionalism and great ideas.
Photography and Videography
Matrimony Photography covered the Sangeeth, Wedding and Reception in Chennai as well as the post wedding shoot in SenmozhiPoonga. The team were a dedicated bunch and did a good job.
Harish Menon photography covered the reception held at Mumbai and the photos were captured very well!
