The whole purpose of the shoot is to capture who you are and show your personalities. If you pick something that just isn’t “you”, you’ll feel uncomfortable, and trust us, it’ll show in the photos. So be true to your style.
Keep in mind your body type. You know what suits you and what doesn’t, so choose outfits that give you a nice overall shape. For instance, do not wear a sleeveless dress if you’re worried about what your arms will look like.
Dress for the season and location. One typically won’t wear heavy clothes to the beach in the summer, so why would you for the photos? If you’re shooting at the beach, ladies wear a pretty dress and have your guy put in a short sleeve shirt and shorts or pants.
Coordinate outfits. This doesn’t mean you have to be matchy-matchy. You want to complement each other’s outfits by choosing colours that work well together. The same goes for how dressy you’re planning to be; if you’re going for a formal look, then both of you need to be formal.
Add depth to your outfits with hats, scarves, jewellery, glasses, flowers in the hair, etc. They will also lend a lot more variety to your shots and poses.
Bring a few options for clothes. If you’ve an outfit in mind and you’re not really sure, bring it along to the shoot and the photographer will help you decide which one will look best. If you’re planning on wearing heels, have a pair of flats just in case.
