Haldi ceremony marks the beginning of the festivities of your big fat Indian wedding. It’s a small ceremony with close friends and family and usually takes place a couple of days before the big day. From this point until the time of the wedding, the couple should not see each nor should they leave the house.

The haldi paste is made from turmeric, rose water (or water), and sandalwood powder. It is gooey and smells refreshingly good! They’re a good antiseptic, so scientifically working for the better health of the bride and the groom. The paste is applied on five places: the feet, knees, arms, hands, face and they go feet up! The paste serves as a cleanser for the body and soul and signifies the bride’s preparation and welcoming into adult married life.
